　2024年5月13日、キリスト教／ローマ・カトリック教会／スペインのブルゴス大司教区にあるクララ会の修道院（ベロラドとオルドゥーニャ？）の修道女たちが、教皇座空位主義者（Sedevacantism）の“司教”であるパブロ・デ・ロハス・サンチェス＝フランコ（Pablo de Rojas Sánchez-Franco）に従い、カトリック教会を離れる決定をしたと報じられています。

　彼女たちの「カトリック・マニフェスト」によると、正統な最後のローマ教皇をピウス12世としており、その後のローマ教皇は現在に至るまで異端の僭称者ということになります。
　従って、彼女たち自身の立場からすると、現在のカトリック教会のほうがカトリックでなくなっており、彼女たち自身が正しいカトリックの立場を取っているという理屈になります。

　ブルゴス大司教マリオ・イセタ・ガビカゴヘアスコア座下（Archbishop Mario Iceta Gavicagogeascoa, Archbishop of Burgos）は、当初そのニュースを信じなかったそうですが、事実を確認したのちに、驚きと懸念を表明しています。

　この称号は、ベネディクト16世の時代の 2006年 に、教皇の称号としては使用されなくなっていました。

　2024年4月6日、キリスト教／ローマ教皇フランシスコ聖下は、聖下総代理アンジェロ・デ・ドナティス枢機卿座下（オスティア使徒座管理 ： サン・ジョバンニ・イン・ラテラノ大聖堂主席司祭 ： His Eminence Angelo Cardinal De Donatis , Vicar General of His Holiness, Apostolic Administrator of Ostia, Archpriest of the Arcibasilica di San Giovanni in Laterano）を、ローマ教皇庁内赦院院長に叙任しました。

　また、2024年4月8日、フランシスコ教皇とローマ司教区の会合において、教皇は、聖下総代理については、当面のところ空席にし、慎重に人選する意思を示した模様です。

　空席期間中の権限は、ローマ司教総代理首席補佐バルダッサーレ・レイナ司教（アクアエ・イン・マウレタニア名義司教 ： ローマ補佐司教 ： Bishop Baldassare Reina, Vicegerent of Rome, Titular Bishop of Aquae in Mauretania, Auxiliary Bishop of Rome）によって代行されます。
