2021年7月12日、キリスト教／オリエント正教会／マランカラ正教シリア教会【インド正教会】首座／東方カトリコス・マランカラ府主教“モラン”・“マル”・バセリオス・マルトマ・パウロス2世聖下（シロ・マランカル典礼カトリコスモラン・バゼリオス・マルトマ・パウロス2世 ： His Holiness Moran Mar Baselios Marthoma【Mar Thoma】 Paulose II, the Catholicos of the East and Malankara Metropolitan, the Supreme Head of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church of India）の永眠が発表されました。
1946年8月30日生まれの74歳。
死因についてははっきりとした発表は見つかりませんが、新型コロナウイルス感染症から完全に回復がならなかったか、癌ではないかと思われます。
同聖下は、伝統的な キリスト教 のうち、オリエント正教会（非カルケドン派正教会）の独立教会の一つ、マランカラ正教シリア教会（別称：インド正教会）の首座であり、体調不良が長く伝えられ、春には次の首座の選出が決定されていました。
