1922年9月25日生まれの96歳。
前日（9月3日）に最高齢の枢機卿であったマニサレス名誉大司教ホセ・デ・ヘスス・ピミエント・ロドリゲス枢機卿座下が100歳で帰天し、その結果最高齢の枢機卿となっていましたが、翌日の帰天ということになりました。
帰天に伴い、最高齢の枢機卿は92歳のアルベール・ヴァノア枢機卿座下（His Eminence Albert Cardinal Vanhoye, S.J.）になりました。司祭から枢機卿に叙任された司教叙階を受けていない人物です。
また、枢機卿の人数は 213 人に減少しました。
2019年9月4日、アフリカ三ヶ国への司牧訪問へ出発したキリスト教／ローマ・カトリック教会の首座／ローマ教皇聖座およびバチカン市国の絶対君主／ローマ教皇フランシスコ聖下（His Holiness Pope Francis）は、モザンビーク共和国の首都マプトの空港に到着。
