By the Mercy of the Almighty God John X Patriarch of Antioch and all the East My brothers, shepherds of the Holy Church of Antioch My sons and daughters, wherever present in this Holy See, "Glorify, my soul, the king born in a cave." The hymnologist addresses himself and the soul of each of us in this splendid season, the season of the Nativity of Christ. It is a call to every soul to contemplate the greatness of a Heavenly King who preferred the coldness of the cave to the lavish couches of kings. He is the unique King. The king Who despised earthly kingdoms and preferred the kingdom of the human soul, which He adored and loved and invited to His glory chamber as a glorious bride gazing at the groom of souls sending out light to the East. Christ comes to His beloved world from the manger of love. From the darkness of the cave, He appears, sending a glimmer of hope to hearts hoping for the peace of the Lord of creation. From Bethlehem, the Lord of peace and the God of mercies has come to spread His solace in the hearts of this floundering humanity. To the melody of angelic glorification, the Lord of Peace comes forth, receiving gifts from the Magi, the gifts of humanity: pure gold because He is king, frankincense because He is God, and myrrh to symbolize the suffering of death. He meets that child with meekness and humility, knocking on the door of the cave of the heart. He had previously knocked on the door of the cave of the heart of Mary, His mother, with the tongue of His angel Gabriel, at the Annunciation, when the pure Virgin Lady accepted the call of her Lord and said: "Behold, I am the servant of the Lord." We are in front of a king knocking on the door of the cave of our soul, which He only invades by the power of His love. He knocks, we hear. When knocking, He respects our will to accept or reject. We pray for the peace of the whole world. We pray for this East. We pray for Syria, for Lebanon, and for Palestine. We pray for our two brothers, the Metropolitans of Aleppo, Youhanna Ibrahim and Boulos Yazigi, whose case is entering its first decade amid deplorable and reprehensible international silence. رسالة صاحب الغبطة البطريرك يوسف الكلّيّ الطوبى بمناسبة عيد الميلاد المجيد. المسيح وُلد فمجّدوه. بهذه التحيّة الكنسيّة التي نعايد بها بعضنا بعضًا في تذكار ميلاد ربّنا وإلهنا ومخلّصنا يسوع المسيح بالجسد أصافحكم بالربّ متمنّيًا لكلّ واحد منكم ما حملته إلينا ملائكة السماء من فرح وسلام وراجيًا أن تقضوا العيد بطمأنية وراحة بال وتمجيد لله وشكر على عطيّة الميلاد التي تفوق كلّ إدراك إذ "كيف [العذراء] تلد ابنًا ولم تعرف رجلًا؟ من شاهد قطّ ميلادًا بغير زرع؟" (سحر الميلاد). في هذه المناسبة المقدّسة أرغب في أن أتأمّل معكم في بعض ما يوحي الميلاد به من أفكار وعواطف في هذه الأيّام الأليمة التي تمرّ على الكثيرين منّا. يخبرنا الإنجيليّ لوقا أنّ السيّدة العذراء ولدت يسوع "فقمّطته وأضجعته في مذود، إذ لم يكن لهما موضع في النزل" (لوقا 2: 7). هل كان يسوع وأبواه يوسف ومريم وحدهم من دون سواهم ليس لهم "موضع في النزل" في تلك الليلة، أو في تلك الأيّام، أم لم يجد غيرهم أيضًا لهم موضعًا في النزل؟ إذا كان أناس آخرون غيرُ يوسف ومريم أتوا إلى بيت لحم، وهي بلدة داود، بلدة شهيرة، ليكتتبوا، لا بدّ أنّ عدد الناس القادمين في تلك الأيّام كان كبيرًا بحيث لا تسعهم كلَّهم المنازلُ والمواضع. فمن المرجّح أنّ البعض منهم قضى أيّامًا في العراء، في الشوارع، وأن البعض الآخر وضع مولوده هناك، في حين أنّ يوسف ومريم وجدا مكانًا ولو متواضعًا ومذودًا ولو ضيّقًا أضجعت فيه مريمُ مولودها ولفّته بالقمط. لم يكن يسوع وحده من دون نزل. أطفال آخرون أيضًا لم يكن لهم في تلك الأيّام نزل، مأوى، وكثيرون آخرون من بين هؤلاء ومن بين غيرهم من مواطنيه، لم يكن عندهم موضع يسندون إليه رأسهم (متّى 8: 5؛ لوقا 9: 58). هل يُحصى اليوم عدد الأطفال الذين كان ميلادهم في الشارع تحت جسر أو في حقل تحت شجرة أو في خربة خلفَ حائط؟ يدعونا يسوع في ذكرى ميلاده إلى أن نوجّه فكرنا وقلبنا إلى هؤلاء الذين يولدون في كلّ يوم وفي كلّ لحظة في هذه المطارح، من أقاصي الأرض إلى أقاصيها، في أمكنة أبشع وأزرى من المغارة، ويُرمى البعض منهم في حاويات النفايات أو على أبواب المياتم والمآوي والأديار والكنائس، أن نوجّه فكرنا وقلبنا إلى أولئك الذين ليس لديهم موضع يسندون إليه رأسهم. اعتدنا أن ننظر السيّد المسيح مولودًا في مذود بمغارة. وفي كلّ سنة تذكّرنا الكنيسة بذلك في صلاة العيد وتدعونا إلى أن ننظر أين يولد المسيح لنرى بأيّ فقر وتجرّد وتواضع كان ميلاده: "هلمّ أيّها المؤمنون لننظر أين يولد المسيح" (سحر عيد الميلاد). في هذا العيد يرغب يسوع في أن لا نكتفي بأن نذهب إلى المغارة لنراه مع يوسف ومريم بل يرغب في أن نذهب إلى الشوارع والحقول والخرب لنرى الذين لا مأوى لهم ولا كساء ولا غذاء، الذين يعانون أكثر ممّا عانى هو نفسه. على الأقلّ كان معه أبواه في حين أنّ كثيرين من الأطفال اليوم لا أبَ لهم يعرفونه ولا أمّ لهم يعرفونها، لا أبوين لهم يحضنانهم. ليس يسوع أنانيًّا بحيث لا يفكّر إلاّ بنفسه ولا يرغب في أن نفكّر بأحد سواه. يريد يسوع أن نفكّر بإخوته الصغار حتّى إنّه نسي ألمه وهو على درب الجلجلة تحت الصليب من شدّة تفكيره بألمهم وكأنّ صليبه لم يكن ليقاس بصليبهم: "يا بناتِ أورشليم لا تبكين عليّ بل ابكين بالحريّ على أنفسكنّ وعلى أولادكنّ" (لوقا 23-28). قد لا يكون أحدنا مسؤولًا أو مسؤولًا بدرجة كبيرة. ما همّ. إنّما لا نستطيع نحن أن نهمل هؤلاء "الإخوة الصغار" ولو كانت المسؤوليّة تقع على غيرنا. مسؤوليّة حصول الخطيئة والشرّ في العالم لم تكن مسؤوليّة يسوع، ومع ذلك أتى إلى هذا العالم وتجسّد وولد وسكن فيما بيننا وحمل الصليب من أجل أن يقضي على الخطيئة وعلى الشرّ. تضامن يسوع معنا بفعل محبّة كبير حتّى إنّه دعى اسمه "الله معنا"، "عمّانوئيل". هل نتضامن نحن مع إخوته الصغار؟ يخبرنا الإنجيل بأنّ يوسف ومريم هربا مع يسوع إلى مصر بأمر الملاك خوفًا من ظلم هيرودس وبطشه وطلبًا للأمان: "قم فخذ الصبيّ وأمّه واهرب إلى مصر وأقم هناك حتّى أقول لك فإنّ هيرودس موشك أن يطلب الصبيّ ليهلكه" (متّى2: 13). شدّت العائلة المقدّسة رحالها إلى مصر لكنّهم كانوا مطمئنّين وعلى يقين بأنّهم سيكونون في أمان في الطريق وفي مصر ما دام سفرهم بأمر من الربّ ولحماية الطفل يسوع. كم من الناس، أفرادًا وعائلات، يهربون اليوم من بلادهم، من الفقر والحرمان والجوع وقلّة العمل ومن الظلم والتعسّف، إلى بلاد مجهولة لا يدرون ماذا ينتظرهم فيها أو هل يصلون إليها إذ ليس في قلوبهم يقين من أنّ سفرهم سيكون في أمان. شيوخ ونساء وأطفال وشباب. منهم من يقطع الغابات والجبال والوديان والأنهر في الحرّ والبرد مشيًا على الأقدام ليس معهم ما يسترون به أجسادهم المنهكة أو ما يسدّون به رمقهم. ومنهم من يركب البحر يائسًا مجازفًا وكم زورق أو مركب ابتلعه البحر. لم يشعر يسوع بالخوف والقلق على حياته كما يشعر الناس الذين رموا بأنفسهم غصبًا في
